New Year, Old Friends!

I totally forgot to mention the wonderful visit I had with one of my old classmates from Washington State over the holiday weekend! He told me to not reveal his age on Facebook (which made me laugh) but I think I'm safe mentioning that we had not seen each other in 25 years on my blog!! I won't mention his last name so he can't be Googled! :) I don't want to reveal anyone's secrets!

A couple of weeks ago I received the friend request on Facebook from Jon who I knew when I attended Central Kitsap High School, which is located in Silverdale, WA. CKHS was the first of two high schools that I attended. I accepted the friend request and a couple of days later happened to check Jon's Facebook page and he mentioned that he was in Charleston. What!? I posted on his page that he was in my neighborhood and soon after I received a response saying that we should get together for a drink. Of course I said I would love to!

Jon was staying at Aloft Hotel, the hip little hotel with the funky bar in North Charleston. He, his wife and daughter were in Charleston visiting for the holidays. We arranged to meet up one evening after he returned from dinner downtown.

Jon looked absolutely fabulous and it was so much fun catching up about what has been happening in our lives for the past 25 years and also chatting about old friends and high school days.

The oddest thing about catching up was discovering that we took the exact opposite travel paths in our lives. From 4th grade to 10th grade Jon lived in Summerville, SC and then went to Washington State. He went from a fairly conservative school in S.C. to a pretty progressive school (CKHS) in WA State. I moved to Washington State in the 7th grade and left in the 10th grade. I went from a really progressive school (CKHS) in WA State to a totally conservative school in S.C. We both had culture shock in opposite ways!

Our paths crossed briefly in Washington State, but we obviously made a lasting impression on each other. How strange that we never realized that each of us had lived/lives in South Carolina!

I love how Facebook has really opened up the world of reconnecting with old friends!

Isn't technology wonderful? I've reconnected with so many people from my past. It's kind of fun!

I hope your New Year is going well!
